Entertainment Centers - Are you Not Entertained?

Image
Entertainment Centers - Are you Not Entertained? Ah, that iconic scene from the movie The Gladiator where Maximus finishes off his opponent too quickly and the crowd is silent. "Are you not entertained?!?" Russell Crowe's character yells into the crowd before they erupt into cheers. Now, I'm not bringing this us because I am about to blog about starting up amateur gladiatorial arenas in our backyards. I am bringing it up because I want to talk about entertainment centers.  Admittedly, as a child, I heard one of my parents' friends talking about getting a new entertainment center in the mid-'80s and I got super excited. My friends and I were going to have a blast playing around in this new center for entertainment, I just knew it. Little did I know what an entertainment center really was. Not gonna lie, it was a total bummer to realize the actual thing was nothing like the arcade I had pictured in my mind.  Benefits of an Entertainment Center Jus...

Nicknacks and Bric-a-brac

Where do you Store Your Stuff? If your house is anything like mine, it is overrun by little items that my kids have collected over the past few months. I know that I am guilty of having a lot of clutter in the house, as well. From books to little figurines, the house can get overrun quickly by all the little nicknacks that we acquire as a family.  My youngest daughter can find a rock and somehow it can become dear to her heart. The attachment usually doesn't last long, however. Sometimes in less than an hour, it is discarded randomly around the house. The best part is when I see it and pick it up and get caught throwing it away. You would think this random rock was some family heirloom but in reality, it's just a rock that "looks kinda like a heart". While I am glad she has a vivid imagination, she can see almost anything in the shape of a random rock. She also does the same thing with leaves.  My older daughter has an obsession with the quarter machines,...

Couch Potato: Spending Time on the Sofa

Couch Potato: Spending Time on the Sofa I know I just wrote about the 4th of July last week, but I figured I would tell you about what happened at our little family gettogether. First off, I found out on the 3rd that my older sister was going to get married and that it was a spur of the moment decision to hold the ceremony at the farm. This revelation sent the rest of the family scrambling to get everything ready as much as possible. Luckily, the list of demands was short and so it mainly involved an impromptu cake bake and some mowing and raking. Aside from the wind blowing a little too hard, the wedding went off without much of a hitch and my sister and brother-in-law are off together on their honeymoon. What does any of this have to do with couches or potatoes? Well, the best of the surprises were yet to come until later on when we were shooting off fireworks. After it had gotten dark, we started shooting off some of the bigger fireworks. Everything was going well until thi...

Got Plans for the 4th of July?

4th of July Celebrations Most people in the United States will be having some kind of celebration or they will be attending one. Whether you set off your own fireworks or you watch a local show, setting off fireworks is a staple for 4th of July fun . Other festivities that seem to be typical celebrations of our nation's independence is grilling. From steaks and shishkabob to burgers and hot dogs, the grills are usually fired up across the country. I'm not going to lie, this particular way to celebrate is my favorite. Ice cream is another very common snack consumed on the 4th. This one might be my favorite if I could digest milk properly. Sadly, however, being lactose intolerant makes it a little difficult to partake in this particular festivity. And before you say it, the lactose-free options that are out there don't even come close to the real thing when it comes to ice cream. Besides a fireworks show in the evening, most communities have a parade during the day, as...
