Got Plans for the 4th of July?

4th of July Celebrations


Most people in the United States will be having some kind of celebration or they will be attending one. Whether you set off your own fireworks or you watch a local show, setting off fireworks is a staple for 4th of July fun. Other festivities that seem to be typical celebrations of our nation's independence is grilling. From steaks and shishkabob to burgers and hot dogs, the grills are usually fired up across the country. I'm not going to lie, this particular way to celebrate is my favorite. Ice cream is another very common snack consumed on the 4th. This one might be my favorite if I could digest milk properly. Sadly, however, being lactose intolerant makes it a little difficult to partake in this particular festivity. And before you say it, the lactose-free options that are out there don't even come close to the real thing when it comes to ice cream.

Besides a fireworks show in the evening, most communities have a parade during the day, as well. I've lived in huge cities and in small towns and, while the size and scale of the parades vary, the idea behind it stays the same. A lot of brave people fought and lost their lives and homes during the Revolutionary War so that we have the freedoms we enjoy. Even though it is a time of celebration, I always remember that it came with a lot of sacrifices.

If you live around the Clovis, NM area, the Smoke on the Water Fireworks show is happening this 4th of July. It's at Greene Acres Park and it will happen around 9 pm if the weather permits. The streets around the park will be closed off and so they are asking that anyone who is within walking distance to please do so since parking will be limited.

Spring Has Sprung - More Time Outdoors

Longer Days and Warmer Weather This winter has had its ups and downs. Just when you think it was over, here came another week or more of cold weather. I guess winter just wasn't ready to loosen its icy grip just because an underground dwelling rodent said it was time. While the groundhog was a little off with his prognosticating this year, spring seems to have finally come. All in all, I bet a lot of people are happy about this change of season.  Not to be a stick in the mud, but spring coming is always a mixed bag for me.
