The Fun of Just Starting Out
That First Move
It's been a while since I have lived with my parents. I joined the workforce at what could be considered a young age. As such, I really was unprepared for what was to come. Just through applying around the town in which I had moved, I found myself working as a recreational vehicle repairman. Let's just say that job was not a good fit for someone who really had no mechanical or "fix-it" skills of any kind. Suffice it to say, I found myself looking for other employment and got a job that paid a lot less than the previous one. This resulted in the discovery of how cheap a case of Ramen Noodles and how long it could feed me. When you are scraping by, you begin to get innovative when you go to open the fridge, only to find bologna and mustard. Then you go to the cupboard and find an opened bag of stale animal crackers sitting at the back of the top shelf that you don't remember buying. Some people may relate to that and some people may not.
Those early years were some rough ones to work through. My apartment was what I called Spartan, but anyone else would just call it empty. If I remember correctly, I had gone to the big mega-chain store but I could only afford a couple of cheap items that I really don't know how to describe. There is probably a word for them that I just don't know but they were a just a couple of cushions (like from a couch) attached together that could fold up to make a very low chair or be unfolded to make a bed. They were about as comfortable as you would expect and I lived on them for a couple of years. It really wasn't until I began inviting girls over that I realized how little I had. However, after about 4 years since moving out, I had started buying "real" furniture.

The Joys of That "Real" Furniture
As time moved on, I found a steady full-time job and I was able to climb the ranks quickly. It happens fast when you work at a place with a turnover rate averaging at two months. I bought a few items like a futon, an assemble-yourself TV stand, and I lucked out and found a pest-free couch in an upscale neighborhood that was placed on the curb. Trust me, though, it was still quite the bachelor pad. In time, I noticed that these things began to sag, bend, and otherwise lose their capacity to perform their intended duties. I still wasn't able to go to an actual furniture store and buy real furniture. I was relegated to either Walmart or a rent-to-own store. It wasn't until I moved out of state that I finally was able to buy what I wanted and I could make my home look and feel like it was truly mine.
