If you have a kitchen with limited space, you probably understand how hard it can be to cook for a large group of people. Growing up, I would listen to my mom wish upon the stars for more room in her kitchen. After we moved into a larger house, I assume we had more room for her to prepare meals. In all honesty, I wasn't really paying attention. Those lego sets weren't going to build themselves, you know? I did hear her complain about not having enough room every now and again when she would be preparing for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and times where a larger crowd than usual was going to be eating.

I would hear her wish for her own island occasionally. You will have to forgive my young mind for conjuring images of my mom leaving for Hawaii when I would hear her desire for a small mass of land surrounded by water. In all honesty, this seemingly odd request led me to help my mom in the kitchen more and more. My dad worked 12 hour days six days a week, and she was taking care of four children, so she was just as overworked as he was. I knew if she just had a pair of helping hands, she wouldn't have to leave us for a secluded beach somewhere. 

She was happy to help me learn to cook, but I am sure that at my age, I was more of a hindrance than anything bordering on helpful. Finally, one day I asked her why she wanted to leave us and that I would eat less so she wouldn't have to cook so much. It was at this moment that my six-year-old self found out that there was such a thing as a kitchen island for sale. My mom asked me what in the world I was talking about and after I explained and she laughed for a bit, she reassured me that she was talking about needing space in her kitchen.

When I got older, and I started fending for myself, I totally understood what my mom was feeling. If you feel anything like my mom did when you cook, just understand that you don't need to fly to Guam to find an island to your liking. Spring Has Sprung - More Time Outdoors

Longer Days and Warmer Weather This winter has had its ups and downs. Just when you think it was over, here came another week or more of cold weather. I guess winter just wasn't ready to loosen its icy grip just because an underground dwelling rodent said it was time. While the groundhog was a little off with his prognosticating this year, spring seems to have finally come. All in all, I bet a lot of people are happy about this change of season.  Not to be a stick in the mud, but spring coming is always a mixed bag for me. I do enjoy the milder weather, but I seriously could do without all the allergies. I am sure the over-the-counter allergy medicine companies are happy for my patronage, I feel like I have to make a personal budget just for nasal sprays and pills.
