Happy Holidays from House of Furniture in Clovis, New Mexico

Do You Still Have Shopping to Do?

If you are anything like me, even though it's only 5 days until Christmas, you have found a way to put off some (or maybe all, no judging here) shopping until the last minute. Now, luckily, the majority of my shopping has been completed before the two-minute warning of the Christmas holiday. Still, I am going to have to brave the traffic and crowds that build up around the mall to get those items for people who gave me their wish list a little too late. Well, at least that's what I am going to blame it on, for now...

The Mall: aka The Dreadlands

Whenever I have to go to the mall within a week of Christmas day, I feel like I might benefit by dressing up similarly to a Mad Max villain when I go shopping. Large dense crowds and long lines can make for an excruciating experience. This year, the main reason I am having to even go to the mall is that when I went to purchase a purse as a gift for my mom, I saw that they have the same exact tote I bought two weeks ago discounted by 50% now. Usually, I wouldn't let that get to me, but we are talking about a pretty hefty discount. I called to ask about what we could do, and they told me to come back in, and they would help me. As long as I make it out with all my fingers, it may actually be worth it.

The other item that I need to get is a toy for my nephew. Apparently, robot dinosaurs are a hot item this year, and I tried to get one earlier this month. I was told that they are expecting another shipment of the toys in soon and that if I wanted to order one, they could have it shipped to my house. It sounded like a fantastic idea. Sadly, the toy came to the store late and the only way I am guaranteed to be able to have it in my hands by Christmas day is to go pick it up. It's worth driving around for an hour looking for a parking spot since he's a good kid.

I have a few other items to get for stocking stuffers, but I can get those at almost anywhere other than the Mall.

Nightmare Traffic

Driving anywhere within a three-mile radius of any shopping center can be a real fun time. Since sarcasm rarely translated through text, I will just say that I am not serious when I say it's fun. Suddenly, when looking for a spot to park, driving turns into a game of Frogger except that you don't get any extra lives, you just get to pay extra on your insurance for a few years. Inevitably, I forget where I parked, and I spend a half hour hitting the lock button on my key fob to try and echo-locate my car. Typically there are a couple of other people in the same predicament, and I am thrown off by their horns. I think next year, I will just replace my regular old car horn with a tugboat's foghorn.
