Make Your Living Room Work For You
Make Your Living Room Work For You
When I was younger and had first moved out on my own, I thought it was the greatest thing to have friends over to visit. In the beginning, I didn't have much along the lines of seating or other comforts for my guests. We were all young, and they were just impressed that I had my own place and it offered us some newfound freedoms. For instance, we never got told to turn down the TV or to quit acting like hooligans while playing video games by my parents. I know, I was really taking advantage of the newfound self-reliance. We may have been noisier back in those days, and we may have roughhoused, but it was that first step into a new world.
As I grew older and realized that being a noisy hooligan loses its charm quickly, priorities for what constituted a proper living room changed. The random assortment of metal folding chairs and a couple of beanbags were swapped with actual sofas and recliners. I was raising the bar in my life but not as quickly as I had hoped. The replacement furniture was mostly used stuff from family and quite mismatched. A sofa from the late '70s that was so worn out it felt like it swallowed you up when you sat down on it was among the "new" acquisitions. To make it less of a problem, I cut a piece of plywood to set under the cushions, and it actually worked for a while. Making do with what I could find had become a habit for me. If there was a reasonable upgrade at a garage sale or sitting by the curb, it wasn't beneath me to take it home and put it to use.
Fast Forward to Family
Now, my priority is to provide the best level of comfort for my family that I can. We all know that money doesn't grow on trees and that furniture can be expensive. So, I realized that smart shopping is the way to go. During my single life, I was very impulsive, but now, sensibility has taken a better hold of me and I much more likely to look around at different places before making a purchase. My furniture all matches and goes well with the vibe I want my living room to give off. The best part is that it wasn't so hard to do. I've made my living room work for me from the day I moved out, but now I'm pretty proud of it.
