Do You Have a TV in Your Bedroom?

Chances are that even if the answer is no to that question, you spend a bit of time looking at a screen of some sort. Whether it is your television, a smartphone, or a tablet of some sort, lots of people will stare at a device before hitting the sack. Most devices emit blue light from their screens. Now this color light has some benefits during the daylight hours. It can help reactivity and attention spans but these benefits may become troublesome at night. When you are getting ready to wind down, blue light can hinder melatonin production. Pretty much all light at night can mess with your body's melatonin production levels. Before indoor lighting, people spent most of their nights in relative darkness with only lamps and candles as light. Eerily, according to a Harvard Health study, the lights at night may be messing with people in more ways than one. Bungled circadian rhythms, cancer, obesity, and heart problems may be linked to getting too much light at night.

Reasons Why

There may be several reasons why we like to stare at a screen when we lay down for bed. It may feel like a way to unwind or it could just be a habit. No matter what, it may be a habit you might want to kick. If you are having trouble getting to sleep, your phone or a movie is probably not the answer. I know a lot of people love to sleep with the TV on, but it may not be in your best interest. A dark, cold, and quiet room is recommended by most sleep specialists. In the long run, if you are having trouble sleeping, they say to try to keep your bedroom a place where all you do is sleep or have intimate times.
