What did you get your mom for Mother's Day? If you just got her a card, then what I am about to write may not be a good idea for you. Not that there is anything wrong with getting your mom a card for mother's day. That's what I did last year. Well, to be honest, it's what I've done for the past several years. This year, I decided to do something special for my mom and dad. They are both right at the cusp of retirement age and so they are both ready to start taking it a bit easier. You have to understand that my dad is a spartan man and wants for very little. He views a lot of things that people want as extravagancies and won't hardly spend money on them. He does have his passions and he collects motorcycles. Before I digress too far, the point I am making is that my mom and dad don't often buy nice things for themselves. So, this past Mother's Day, I bought a much bigger TV for her. I joked that it was hers and my dad needed to ask my mom for permission to watch it. 

Recliners as Gifts

For this Father's day, I am buying my dad a recliner so he has something comfy to sit on while he watches his news programs. My mom has her own rocking chair where she knits and does other crafty stuff while watching television. My dad has the "dad chair"... It's so old it practically conforms to his body. No one wants to sit in it, not because he gets upset or anything, but because the thing is just flat uncomfortable. Now, I know that a recliner is a significant investment compared to other typical father's day gifts, but if you know the right place to shop, it's not as big a deal as you think.

Spring Has Sprung - More Time Outdoors

Longer Days and Warmer Weather This winter has had its ups and downs. Just when you think it was over, here came another week or more of cold weather. I guess winter just wasn't ready to loosen its icy grip just because an underground dwelling rodent said it was time. While the groundhog was a little off with his prognosticating this year, spring seems to have finally come. All in all, I bet a lot of people are happy about this change of season.  Not to be a stick in the mud, but spring coming is always a mixed bag for me. I do enjoy the milder weather, but I seriously could do without all the allergies. I am sure the over-the-counter allergy medicine companies are happy for my patronage, I feel like I have to make a personal budget just for nasal sprays and pills.
