The Dining Room Table, AKA the Craft Table

Crafting on the Dining Room Table

If your house is anything like mine, The dining room is not really used for its namesake much. In my house, the kids and everyone else eat while watching some show on television. We are all sitting on the couch or in a recliner with our little TV trays in front of us. My youngest will usually sit on the floor and use the coffee table as her platform for her plate. For me, growing up, we always sat at the dinner table and ate together as a family. I tried to recapture that and it lasted a few weeks before a rebellion happened. Now, we compromise and I pause whatever show we are watching and we go around the room to talk about our days. Each person hs a chance to tell about an accomplishment, struggle, or anecdote that happened that day. It may not be exactly like how it was when I was a kid, but I am hoping my kids will look back fondly on it.

Crafts Galore on the Dining Table

At almost any point, you will find an amalgamation of crafting supplies strewn across the dining room table. From glitter to snippets of craft paper and dried glue, there is no telling what you may find on top of it. The latest fad to capture my daughters' attention has been the fuse beads. You know, the ones made by Perler? I won't deny that I enjoy this. I started out helping them make different shapes of animals and flowers and what not. Later on, I started doing portraits of older action movie characters like Robocop and The Terminator. I think the next project I tackle will be either Darth Vader or the Predator. Who knows, I may even do Darth Maul before its all said and done.

I guess the point I am making is that dining room tables aren't just for eating. We do clear off the table and steer clear of crafts during the holidays. Although, at Christmas, it does turn into a present wrapping station. I won't deny that I get a little jealous of people who have an actual craft room, but it just isn't in the stars for us since there are no extra rooms in the house.
