Nothing like a Fireplace and a Comfy Recliner

Even though Southern weather can't seem to make its mind up about what season it wants to be, we still haven't even made it to winter. Technically, the season begins in the Northern Hemisphere on December 21st. The Winter Solstice happens when the earth's tilt is farthest from the sun during its yearly trip. It happens twice a year; once for each pole. 

This means two things; this will be the day that has the least amount of sunlight and that the daylight hours will continue to grow until the Summer Solstice. I know that this day is technically the astronomical first day of winter and other parts of the world will be experiencing more severe winter weather. But down here in the south, it can be interesting to watch the weather flip back and forth from mild to cold. I guess if you don't like the weather, you can just wait a few days until it changes. 

The Fireplace and the Recliner

If you have a fireplace, how often do you use it? For me and my family, we use ours almost every chance we can get! None of us use it to heat the house, but mainly for ambiance. To me, there is nothing better on a cold night than to get a good fire going and recline close to it and read a book. Typically the popping noise and the flicker of the flames will have me folding my arms over my book and falling asleep before I can finish a couple of chapters. The one thing about it is, the recliner has to be a comfortable one. 

When I first bought my house, I had an old antique armchair and footrest that I had picked up off the side of the road somewhere in town. I cleaned it up and used it for quite a while. That was what I sat in to read beside the fireplace. I honestly had no clue what I was missing out on until I bought this recliner that I use now. It was a night and day difference to be able to actually recline back. I will admit one thing, though. I never did fall asleep when I read sitting up straight in that old chair.
