How Often do you Go to the Movies?

Movie Seats or Sofa? Domestic ticket sales are dwindling here in the United States and movie makers are relying more and more on foreign markets to drive up the sales of tickets to the shows they produce. One of the reasons that experts on the subject say is responsible for this decrease in sales is that people are just as happy to sit in and watch something streaming from the comfort of their own living room. Another supposed reason for the drop in sales is that people feel like the movie-going experience itself is kind of outdated. For that reason, some more and more theaters are upping the ante by having more options from the concession stand and reclinable seating. I, however, have a different take on the whole "dip in ticket sales" phenomenon.  I think that Hollywood is out of ideas. Now that practically all movie production companies are owned by huge Hollywood conglomerates, execs are so scared to take a chance on something outside what they think is the box t

Do You Have a TV in Your Bedroom? Chances are that even if the answer is no to that question, you spend a bit of time looking at a screen of some sort. Whether it is your television, a smartphone, or a tablet of some sort, lots of people will stare at a device before hitting the sack. Most devices emit blue light from their screens. Now this color light has some benefits during the daylight hours. It can help reactivity and attention spans but these benefits may become troublesome at night. When you are getting ready to wind down, blue light can hinder melatonin production. Pretty much all light at night can mess with your body's melatonin production levels. Before indoor lighting, people spent most of their nights in relative darkness with only lamps and candles as light. Eerily, according to a  Harvard Health  study, the lights at night may be messing with people in more ways than one. Bungled circadian rhythms, cancer, obesity, and heart problems may be linked to getting to

Recliners: A Good Gift Idea for Dad?

Recliners for Father's Day? What did you get your mom for Mother's Day? If you just got her a card, then what I am about to write may not be a good idea for you. Not that there is anything wrong with getting your mom a card for mother's day. That's what I did last year. Well, to be honest, it's what I've done for the past several years. This year, I decided to do something special for my mom and dad. They are both right at the cusp of retirement age and so they are both ready to start taking it a bit easier. You have to understand that my dad is a spartan man and wants for very little. He views a lot of things that people want as extravagancies and won't hardly spend money on them. He does have his passions and he collects motorcycles. Before I digress too far, the point I am making is that my mom and dad don't often buy nice things for themselves. So, this past Mother's Day, I bought a much bigger TV for her. I joked that it was hers an

The Dining Room Table, AKA the Craft Table

Crafting on the Dining Room Table If your house is anything like mine, The dining room is not really used for its namesake much. In my house, the kids and everyone else eat while watching some show on television. We are all sitting on the couch or in a recliner with our little TV trays in front of us. My youngest will usually sit on the floor and use the coffee table as her platform for her plate. For me, growing up, we always sat at the dinner table and ate together as a family. I tried to recapture that and it lasted a few weeks before a rebellion happened. Now, we compromise and I pause whatever show we are watching and we go around the room to talk about our days. Each person hs a chance to tell about an accomplishment, struggle, or anecdote that happened that day. It may not be exactly like how it was when I was a kid, but I am hoping my kids will look back fondly on it.  Crafts Galore on the Dining Table At almost any point, you will find an amalgamation of crafting su
